First days of the 1.18 server

Something I liked about how the current server started was that the world was a small size, which meant that towns were settled within manageable distances from each other, especially the more active ones. I was wondering if something like this could be considered for the 1.18 server, at least for the first few weeks, before the border is expanded to the desired size.

Closer towns added a better sense of community and encouraged people to set up highways and mail services.

Or enable claims within X range of spawn only leaving the rest to be explored as a wilderness.
So anything outside of claims boarder if free to break if player made, with mention in the rules.
the range of the claims would be (4 x [max player server capacity]) x (one chunk) =

Example:
4(1000) x 16(16) = 1,024,000/4 = 256,000
The square root of 256,000 is around 506 so a claim space of 506 in both directions of spawn with 4000 chunks to claim.

This would require a good spot to set spawn rather than just yolo anywhere.

506 chunks in both directions is over 8k blocks which was the size of the ravs2 server, and likely the max size the next server would go. I was thinking more like 3k in every direction like is currently is

its 506 blocks not chunks

I purposely moved to the wilderness to be away from the huge towns (for aesthetic reasons). Forcing to settle near spawn would be forced urbanization. It also would mean that those who settle first would be restricted from expansion by those who settle right behind them. "Noshii's" idea works better, IMO.

Like I said, I was thinking of it starting as a 3k from 0,0 world (like it is right now), not forcing people to settle right near spawn. That would be far too crowded. The current world size still has lots of untouched space for people who want to live in the wilderness.

Yeah, that's why I liked it. 😊 6k diameter is plenty for our pop. Even 4-5 would probably be fine.
